If you’ve ever had to live up to or overcome the reputation of a relative, this books is a must read. In Spensa’s world pilots are the heros and defenders of their lives. She’s dreamt of being one of those pilots for as long as she can remember. Unfortunately, her father is killed and accused of abandoning his team, making it almost impossible to even have a chance to prove herself.
Getting into flight school was the easy part, as no one will let her forget her father’s reputation, especially when life and death are on the line.

What I Love About It
Gumption. Seriously. Spensa has to overcome a lot. She doesn’t always do it with grace, but who does? This book is filled with rich characters that all have their own issue to resolve, sometimes unrecognized. Plus, there is a sarcastic A.I. spaceship. I mean…what more could you want?
